Nissan Qashqai e-POWER sets new Guinness World Records
Nissan has reached a new milestone for its innovative e-POWER technology, with the Nissan Qashqai achieving a Guinness World Records™ title for the longest journey completed by a non-plug-in extended-range electric vehicle SUV without external charging or refuelling.
The record-breaking Qashqai travelled an impressive 1,980 km on a single tank, highlighting the efficiency, range and real-world capability of Nissan’s latest-generation e-POWER technology.
Record-breaking journey across Colombia
The record attempt took place in Colombia between 14 and 17 July 2026, with the Qashqai travelling from Bogotá to the Caribbean coast. The route included a wide variety of roads, traffic conditions and terrains, putting the vehicle’s efficiency and long-distance capabilities to the test.
Every stage of the journey was independently monitored and verified by Guinness World Records™ judges, who confirmed the achievement following a detailed review process.
The latest record adds to Nissan’s growing e-POWER success story, following previous long-distance challenges in the UK and Tasmania. Together, these achievements demonstrate the technology’s ability to deliver efficient, long-range performance across a variety of real-world driving conditions.
Electric driving without the need to plug in
Nissan’s e-POWER technology is designed to deliver the smooth, responsive driving experience associated with an electric vehicle, while retaining the convenience of a petrol engine.
Unlike a conventional hybrid, the wheels of an e-POWER vehicle are driven exclusively by an electric motor. The petrol engine acts as a generator, producing electricity to charge the battery and power the motor when required. This means drivers can enjoy instant electric motor response without the need to plug the vehicle in.
The latest generation of e-POWER also features Nissan’s advanced 5-in-1 modular powertrain, which integrates the electric motor, generator, inverter, reducer and increaser into a compact and efficient system. Regenerative braking further helps to recover energy and optimise efficiency during everyday driving.
Supporting Nissan’s electrification journey
The new Guinness World Records™ achievement highlights Nissan’s continued development of technologies designed to make electrified driving more accessible.
By combining EV-like performance and refinement with the familiarity and convenience of traditional refuelling, e-POWER offers an alternative for drivers who want many of the benefits of electric driving without relying on external charging.
Commenting on the achievement, Richard Candler, Nissan Corporate Executive (CE), Family, Product & Components Strategy, said: “This fantastic record once again shows the capability of the latest generation of e-POWER technology. Qashqai e-POWER delivers efficiency, refinement and EV-like driving performance that we have focused around real customer driving needs. It also plays an important role in Nissan’s electrification journey, helping more drivers experience the benefits of electric driving as they move towards a fully electric future.”

What is Nissan e-POWER?
e-POWER is Nissan’s unique hybrid powertrain, where the wheels are driven solely by an electric motor. A petrol engine generates electricity to charge the battery and power the motor, delivering an EV-like driving experience without the need for external charging.
How is e-POWER different from a conventional hybrid?
Unlike a conventional hybrid, there is no direct mechanical connection between the petrol engine and the wheels. Instead, the electric motor provides the drive, delivering smooth acceleration and responsive performance.
What does this mean for drivers?
e-POWER combines the instant response and refinement of electric driving with the convenience of traditional refuelling, offering drivers a practical route into electrified motoring.
