A new law has been passed which requires parents to seat their children aged 12 or under in a backed car seat. This means that if you currently have a backless car seat, you’re going to need to invest in a new one.
Under the new rules backless booster seats - also known as booster cushions - will only be approved for use for children taller than 125cm and weighing more than 22kg (3st 6.5lbs).
At the moment children weighing as little as 15kg (2st 4lbs) - that’s around three years old - can travel in backless booster seats.
We advise that parents buy high backed seats with good head protection and red guides to feed the seat through. An Isofix fitting to stop the seat swaying is also a plus.
We recommend that you do not buy car seats online and speak to a professional to keep you and your children safe.
