Nissan and Wayve Next Generation Driver Assistance Technology

Nissan and Wayve have signed agreements to deliver next-generation ProPILOT series with Wayve AI technology across a range of Nissan vehicles. The AI software will combine with Nissan’s driver-assistance systems to support both ADAS and point-to-point advanced driving.

In 2016, Nissan had introduced ProPILOT which assisted with single-lane highway, then in 2019 developed ProPILOT 2.0 to include multi-lane support and hands-off functionality. In September 2025, Nissan developed a prototype with Wayve’s cutting-edge AI software. This prototype created smooth, safe driving assistance, especially whilst driving in urban areas and on motorways.

With the next generation of the ProPILOT series, the ‘Wayve AI Driver’ will be integrated with this system. Nissan looks to improve the functionality and convenience of ProPILOT, and deliver more advanced systems to the global market, such as Japan and North America. Nissan is looking to reveal the first model with the new generation of ProPILOT in Japan next year, in 2027.

The combination of Nissan and Wayve AI showcase their commitment to road safety and technological advancement. Safety is at the heart of Wayve’s embodied AI, adapting to be more efficient in different cities. Intelligent driving has been delivered with the ProPILOT series with the various cameras, radar, and LiDAR.

During mass production, Nissan and Wayve are learning from different real-world driving conditions. This ensures the systems are continually improving and enhancing Nissan’s competitive driving technologies.

“By combining Nissan’s advanced autonomous driving expertise with Wayve’s state-of-the-art AI technology, we are setting a new benchmark for driver assistance. The widespread adoption of our next-generation ProPILOT integrated with Wayve AI will deliver safer, more intuitive and more comfortable driving experiences to customers worldwide, while accelerating the transition toward an intelligent mobility future. This agreement is an important step in Nissan’s mission to revolutionize mobility making it cleaner, safer, and more inclusive.”
