The 2.5-litre petrol engine is based on the unit featured in the regular RAV4 Hybrid, with improvements made to meet the requirements of the plug-in hybrid system.
Four driving modes are available, with the driver having the option to switch from hybrid to pure electric EV driving at the touch of a button. The new EV mode can cover 38 miles on pure electric power alone, which is longer than the average daily commute in Europe. Speeds of up to 84mph can also be reached without any input from the combustion engine.
