To grab the attention of committed motorists Peugeot has introduced a GT Line model to its 208 compact hatchback range, with the version focusing on striking sports detailing. The new approach is seen inside and out to reinforce this GTi-inspired example.
The GT Line is based on the Allure trim level but stands apart with 17-inch Caesium diamante alloy wheels, an Equalizer grille with red 3D trim and gloss black door mirror casings. The windows are finished with an elegant chrome surround and the same material is used for the exhaust. Front fog lamps are a premium feature included as standard while the three claw rear lights have become a modern Peugeot hallmark.
On the inside there is more evidence of the GTi influence. The three-spoke steering wheel has a flat bottomed section, and both front occupants settle into black and red sports seats with bold red stitching. To match the sporty aluminium pedals there are Peugeot-branded aluminium door sills with a similar metallic finish for the gear knob and door handles.
Generous levels of kit are also found here, one highlight being the seven-inch multifunction colour touchscreen with Mirror Screen. This innovation enables you to view compatible smartphone apps on the display and operate them via the car's controls. Bluetooth, a DAB digital radio and USB socket are also standard additions.
The French firm's latest powertrain developments ensure the 208 GT Line's engines are responsive and refined so there are no shortage of thrills on the road. You have a choice of three including a 110HP 1.2-litre PureTech petrol fitted with five-speed manual transmission. This combination takes the 208 from standing to 60mph in around 9.6 seconds and returns a superb 62.8mpg combined. A 1.6-litre diesel with 100HP or 120HP are the two alternatives and the lesser powered is the most economical of the trio. It returns up to 83.1mpg combined while emitting as little as 87g/km of CO2.
Peugeot technology doesn't just make the 208 GT Line highly practical but safe too. The Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) detects the first signs of a skid and takes action to correct them. There's also an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distributor (EBFD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) that help you maintain control at all times. Multiple airbags deploy to protect in the event of a collision, and ISOFIX location mounts secure infant seats in place.
The 208 GT Line is Peugeot's premium offering to the supermini class, and you can experience it up close at Yeomans Peugeot. Enquire with the team in Worthing or Bexhill to find out more or to arrange a test drive.
