“Our Urban EV Concept is the true representation of Honda’s ‘We make it simple’ design idea, which aims to make cars closer to people’s hearts.”
Makoto Iwaki, Honda R&D Executive Creative Director.
From Concept to Reality
The Urban EV is the first mass-produced battery electric vehicle from Honda sold in Europe. However, electric vehicles have been around for over 100 years in some shape or form. While the idea of an electrically powered vehicle isn't exactly new, the technology Honda are offering is. During the creation of the Urban EV Concept, the Honda designers and engineers looked at new ways of expressing their ideas and found that simplicity was the key.
The number of moving parts is dramatically reduced, with just a fraction of what you'll find in a conventional vehicle. This means better energy efficiency and much less maintenance.
The time for electric vehicles has arrived
Charging times for electric vehicles will entirely depend on the size of the car and the battery. Typical charge times for pure electrical cars - using a standard wall socket - is around six and eight hours. Most electric cars can also use rapid charging points that can top up the batteries to 80% capacity in around 30 minutes.
Electric Vehicle Range
Most new electric vehicle batteries have the capacity to last for up to 100 miles and above, but this depends on the battery size. Given that the average UK driver travels just 25 miles, 100 miles is ample for every day driving.
Honda Power Manager Concept
The idea of the Power Manager Concept was unveiled alongside the Urban EV Concept in Frankfurt. It is a smart system that can store energy more efficiently, releasing electricity generated by renewable sources back into the home or selling it back to the grid.
Clever technology plays an important role in the Urban EV's attractive, minimalist design.
This stunning electric vehicle, first shown at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, is no longer a concept: it's becoming a reality! So this leaves only one question: why go electric?
The first and foremost reason is that its cheaper to run. There are significant tax advantages and some healthy Government grants that EV drivers can benefit from. Overall, going green will be saving more than just the environment, it'll be saving you those all important pennies.
Chosen for the renowned 2018 Car Design Awards, the Urban EV Concept was described as bringing 'a much-needed sense of personality to the EV space'. Looking at it, it's not hard to see why!
The unique, relaxing environment within the Honda Urban EV is surprisingly spacious. Created with natural materials and wood finish accents, you will experience driving in a relaxed ambience, reminiscent of a lounge. It can only be described as utterly individual. In every sense, the Honda electric car will change the way you drive forever.
