Building on the reputation of the previous versions, the new Civic Type R is a hot hatchback that takes the performance of compact cars to another level. Even though it’s targeted at performance and driving pleasure, the practicality of the standard Civic remains.
Honda has managed to keep the base design of the Civic reasonably intact. But with the Type R upgrade, it has made the hatchback more ferocious and aggressive than before. With the large rear wing, sharp front and rear bumpers, bonnet scoop and triple exhausts at the back, the Civic Type R is one of the angriest hot hatchbacks available.
Much like the standard Civic, the Type R comes well-equipped with an easy-to-use 7-inch infotainment system, a rear parking camera and Bluetooth. But this sporty version adds even more, including sports seats with a leather steering wheel, driving modes and alloy trim pieces. That’s all while offering a 420-litre boot and plenty of passenger space in the rear as well.
Under the bonnet of the Type R is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine developing 316bhp and 400Nm of torque. With that unit on-board, the Type R can go from 0-60mph in just 5.6 seconds and has a top speed of 169mph - offering exhilarating performance. It’s paired to a 6-speed manual transmission, which shifts smoothly and makes for an involving driving experience.
