Nissan has been presented with the 'Outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility Award' at the 2025 Metro Pride Awards for its exceptional efforts in supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
The award ceremony was held on 26th February at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London's Covent Garden, bringing together individuals, brands, organisations and charities to celebrate their commitment to LGBTQ+ initiatives which help to improve the lives and opportunities of people across the UK. At the event, Nissan was recognised for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. In particular, their Possibilities Project encapsulates multiple initiatives that help to improve inclusivity, equality and opportunity. The project was shortlisted by members of the public, and was then chosen as the winner of the accolade by a panel of expert judges.
"Through its fantastic Possibilities Project activities and the brilliant Dare to Defy TV docuseries, plus a host of internal initiatives to make its workplaces more inclusive, Nissan has consistently demonstrated a remarkable commitment to DEI. It is a deserving winner of the 2025 Metro Pride Award for Outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility – congratulations to all involved!"
- Metro Pride Awards judges
"The Possibilities Project epitomises Nissan's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, both within our workplace and in the wider community. We're naturally very proud to be recognised for these efforts, but even more so that our ongoing support for the LGBTQ+ community plays a part in making a positive difference to the lives of underrepresented communities in the UK."
- Fiona Mackay, Nissan Marketing director
The Nissan Possibilities Project was first established in 2021 and serves as Nissan's long-term CSR programme that promotes Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, whilst also focusing on supporting the LGBTQ+ community with tangible support through internal and external initiatives.
A recent three-part Prime Video docuseries named Dare to Defy highlights many of these initiatives, such as breaking down barriers within sport for underrepresented communities. The second episode examines how football is promoting inclusivity and how it can do better. The episode shows how Nissan, Manchester City FC and the club's LGBTQ+ supporters' group, Canal Street Blues, worked together to bring the ethos and feeling of Manchester Pride to Manchester City's first Premier League home game of the 2024 / 2025 season. The series is now available to watch in 28 countries.
"We are inspired by the incredible individuals and organisations recognised by the Metro Pride Awards, and honoured to be part of this outstanding community. We believe that embracing diversity not only strengthens our company but also drives positive change in the world. We will continue work hand-in-hand with the LGBTQ+ community to build a future that is inclusive for all."
- Rachel Foster, Nissan HR Manager
There are many other examples of Possibilities Project activities, including Nissan being the founding partner of Rainbow Row, a designated mile of the TCS London Marathon route that promotes the LGBTQ+ community and allyship through branding and live entertainment. Nissan has also created LGBTQ+ themed Cheerzones at Great Run Series events, working with local LGBTQ+ groups at each running location to raise money and create a fun, inclusive atmosphere for spectators to enjoy the races and cheer on the runners. Additionally, with Nissan's support, City in the Community, Manchester City FC's charitable foundation, launched the 'IncluCITY' initiative designed to create safe spaces in football.
Nissan created its own workplace Pride Network in 2023, hosting activities throughout the year to support the LGBTQ+ community. Gender-neutral facilities have also been integrated across all Nissan sites and all HR policies have been updated to recognise gender fluidity. What's more, all UK Nissan employees undertake mandatory training on unconscious bias.
