The 208 GTi offers all the practicality of its conventional counterpart and adds the kind of pace and power that makes it one of the hottest hatches on the market. The car comes with a wide range of standard equipment and, unsurprisingly, it’s a great deal of fun to drive.
The three-door GTi boasts eye-catching 18-inch alloy wheels that are finished in matt-black and feature Peugeot Sport red brake callipers. Matt black informs the car’s wheel arch extensions too, as well as its door mirrors and radiator grille surround. The latter circumscribes a bespoke GTi grille, which features a natty chequered flag motif. The vehicle possesses a lowered ride height, which provides it with an appealing low-sprung look and contributes to its aerodynamic qualities.
Inside the 208 GTi, travellers are treated to Alcantara-upholstered sports seats which are enhanced with red contrast stitching and emblazoned with the Peugeot Sport insignia. The snappily attired cabin comes with a number of other eye-catching fixtures, such as GTi-specific carpet mats that also feature the Peugeot Sport emblem. Automatic dual-zone air conditioning and electric front and rear windows are included too, enabling you to establish your ideal cabin temperature.
The car is powered by a 1.6-litre 205bhp petrol engine, which is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. This produces 300Nm of torque, 0-60mph in roughly 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 143mph. While there’s no doubting this unit’s potency, it is still capable of returning as much as 52.3mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 125g/km.
Technology and safety
If the low roar of the GTi’s exhaust isn’t music enough to your ears, there’s always the car’s six-speaker sound system, which includes DAB radio and an AM/FM tuner. Bluetooth® features too, enabling you to stream your favourite tunes and enjoy hands-free telephone communication. Helping to get you where you need to be is a satellite navigation system that comes complete with seven-inch colour touchscreen.
The car comes with Euro NCAP’s full five-star crash-test rating, and a wide range of passive and active safety features. These include Electronic Stability Programme, Anti-lock Braking System, a rear parking aid and hazard lights that automatically activate when concerted braking pressure is applied. Younger passengers are kept particularly secure thanks to the inclusion of ISOFIX anchor points and child-proof door locks.
