New Hyundai IONIQ

The Hyundai IONIQ stands apart from other cars, not least because it enables you to select the type of powertrain that best suits your driving needs. Choose from hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and all-electric editions, each with the same desirable body type. Whichever version you select, you can be sure that the affordable IONIQ will offer low running costs and lots of practicality.

Exterior

The attractive and modern-looking IONIQ sports a number of eye-catching features. These include a multi-louvered radiator grille, streamlined headlights and body-coloured bumper that form an appealing front fascia. The vehicle rides on lightweight and debonair 15-inch alloy wheels too, and possesses more colour-coded fixtures, such as door handles and electrically operated and heated door mirrors. The latter come with integrated indicators, and further exterior lighting includes automatic high-to-low-beam headlights.

Interior

A roomy five-person cabin provides a comfortable ride, even for rearmost travellers. The interior boasts several stylish touches too, such as a leather-covered steering wheel, which is also rake-and-reach-adjustable. The driver further benefits from an electrically adjustable position. In-cabin climate is easy to maintain thanks to four electric windows and automatic dual-zone climate control. Hybrid and PHEV variants offer 443 litres of boot space, which can be expanded to 1,505 litres whenever the need arises. Electric iterations deliver between 350 litres and 1,410 litres of cargo capacity.

Performance

Hybrid models produce up to 83mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 79g/km, which compare extremely favourably with most other family cars. PHEV variants are fitted with a 1.6-litre petrol engine which, in tandem with an 8.9kWh lithium-ion battery, returns as much as 257mpg and emissions as low as 26g/km. All-electric iterations, meanwhile, feature a compact and lightweight 28kWh battery which, following a full charge, produces a 174-mile range and emits zero CO2 emissions.

Technology and safety

Enjoy a wide range of radio stations and your favourite tunes with a six-speaker sound system, which includes DAB and FM/AM tuners. Bluetooth® is featured as standard too, enabling music streaming and hands-free telephone communication, while a colour touchscreen display provides access to the car’s infotainment features.

Each IONIQ model comes with a wide range of driver aids, such as Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Traction Control and Hill-hold Assist. The latter prevents the car from inadvertently rolling whenever the engine is started on an incline. A host of passive safety elements are featured in order to keep everyone on board secure. These include multiple airbags, three-point seatbelts, ISOFIX child-seat anchor points and height-adjustable head restraints.
