New Honda CR-V
Advancements in forward motion can only come from forward thinking. The new CR-V is a true representation of this. It’s a car with real strength but with the refinement and performance of a saloon car.
To achieve crisper responses for the driver, we lowered the Honda CR-V’s centre of gravity by 35 millimetres. That might not sound like much, but together with the 17-inch wheels and the wider stance, these millimetres add up to an agility that is normally only found in saloon cars.
Even when it comes to emissions the Honda CR-V delivers a more car-like performance. Honda invented i-VTEC technology - a system that delivers a high level of power and torque whilst delivering strong fuel economy and low emissions.
The 2.2 i-CTDi diesel is not just any old diesel, it’s one of the quietest, most powerful in its class. The 2.0 i-VTEC petrol engine in the new Honda CR-V will actually deliver the levels of emissions and economy of an estate car with the equivalent engine size. So what does all this mean? Performance, lower fuel costs, less harm to the environment and ultimately a much more refined driving experience.
Everything inside the new Honda CR-V has been thought about extensively. We’ve analysed the way people drive and looked to create an interior that gives you plenty of space. Add to this the increased insulation that substantially reduces road noise and, no matter where life takes you, you’ll always arrive feeling cool, calm and totally relaxed.
Designed so that five adults can sit comfortably, the new Honda CR-V’s interior offers a space of comfort and refinement. Using our One Motion mechanism each of the rear seats folds down independently to create a completely flat floor area and open up even more boot space.
The double deck luggage area enables you to organise items in the boot and provides easier access to them. The second tier shelf sits 330 millimetres above the load floor, allowing you to hide valuables underneath, or stow fragile items - ideal for a big shop and making sure your fruit doesn't get squashed by your baked beans.
A new technology, which has been introduced into the Honda CR-V, is CMBS. The system is designed to reduce driver response times by using a radar transmitter, mounted behind the front grille. The radar helps to detect when a frontal collision is imminent. CMBS works in conjunction with the seatbelt E-pretensioners to give visual and audio warnings to the driver to take preventative action. It can also initiate braking to reduce vehicle speed.
When there’s a risk of collision with the vehicle ahead, or the distance between the two vehicles is too short, an alarm sounds and the word BRAKE appears on the multiplex display. This alerts the driver to take action to avoid collision.
If the distance between the two vehicles continues to decrease CMBS applies light braking and the pretensioners on the driver’s side gently retract the seatbelt two or three times. At this point there’s still a chance the collision can be avoided.
At this stage, collision is unavoidable. The system starts emergency braking and activates the brake assist function to reduce speed. At the same time E-pretensioners begin to tighten the seatbelts to reduce collision forces and potential threat and serious injury.
The CR-V also comes with a set of safety features as standard, such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA). There’s a 3-point seatbelt for every seat, and several ISOFix child seat-mounting options, including the centre seat, allowing you to see your child.
Apart from that you’ll find yourself surrounded by six airbags – front, side and curtain airbags. And our headrests aren’t just comfortable - if you’re hit from behind they move forward, absorbing the shock and helping to prevent whiplash.
Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) offers an innovative frame structure that disperses and absorbs crash energy over a large area improving safety for everyone inside. Add to this rollover protection, seatbelt pretensioners and front and rear crumple zones and you’ll soon see why we expect to achieve a sector leading NCAP 5* Adult Occupant Rating, 3* Pedestrian Test Rating and a 4* Child Protection Rating (NCAP results due March 07).
Prices start from £19,030.
